Biography

Julia-Sophie Kober

Lyric soprano · Munich

Lyric soprano Julia-Sophie Kober’s heart beats for concert singing: as a soloist and in some of Europe’s most distinguished ensembles.

As a soloist she has been heard in works including Bach’s St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate and Requiem, Haydn’s Creation and Theresienmesse, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang, Fauré’s Requiem and Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël. She appeared several times with the Kammersymphonie Hannover and the Lübeck Philharmonic.

In ensemble she sings with the Gaechinger Cantorey under Hans-Christoph Rademann and the Utopia Choir under Teodor Currentzis, among others; with the Utopia Choir she appeared at the Salzburg Festival in 2026 in Bizet’s Carmen, Brahms’ German Requiem and Kurtág’s Songs of Despair and Sorrow, in 2024 in Mozart’s Don Giovanni (director: Romeo Castellucci) and in 2023 in Purcell’s The Indian Queen (director: Peter Sellars).

Further engagements include Musikfest Bremen, the Munich Opera Festival, where she performed at the 2026 opening with the Bavarian State Opera Chorus under Vladimir Jurowski, and the internationally acclaimed production of Parsifal at the Goetheanum in Dornach (2023 to 2025). Concert tours have taken her to venues including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, deSingel in Antwerp, the Philharmonie Luxembourg, the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi in Palermo, the Berlin Philharmonie and Konzerthaus Berlin, the Isarphilharmonie in Munich and St Thomas Church in Leipzig. In 2026 Dabringhaus und Grimm (MDG) released the CD Marcel Dupré – Vocal Discoveries with Ensemble Vox ad hoc under Tobias Frank.

Her musical path began with the violin: Julia-Sophie Kober first studied music education with violin as her main instrument at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, then opera and concert singing at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin with Prof. Britta Schwarz and Prof. Janet Williams. She was a member of Prof. Wolfram Rieger’s song class and deepened her training in masterclasses with Peter Berne, David Jones and Prof. Peter Sefcik.

Today she lives in Munich. Away from the stage she works as a coach for women singers and musicians, with the perspective of an artist who knows the industry from the inside.
